Of Marriageable Age
Sharon Maas
Of Marriageable Age follows three individuals across three decades and three continents in an epic story of intertwined dramas and mysterious legacies. It is set against the struggles for independence of two British colonies -- one the Jewel in the Crown, one a forgotten nation at the end of the world -- and is ultimately a story of personal triumph against society's straightjacket

Savitri, intuitive and charming, is brought up among the servants of a pre-war English household in India. But the traditional customs of her Brahmin family clash against English upper-class prejudice, threatening her love for the son of the house. Nataraj, raised as the son of an idealistic country doctor, finds life in London heady and mind-spinning, with girls and money easily available. Sarojini, her passion hidden by outward reserve, grows up in Guyana and finds herself in rebellion against her overly strict, orthodox Hindu father... and even against her gentle, almost saintly Ma.
