Secret Asian Man
| Nick Carbó
| Nick Carbo's iSecret Asian Man/i is a hilarious and poignant look at the immigrant experience. The hero of this collection of poems is Ang Tunay na Lalaki, the Filipino equivalent Marlboro Man. Macho and bare chested, he endorses gin. When he finds himself planted in New York City and auditioning as a bit actor, disillusionment quickly sets in. He realizes he, as an Asian man, will never be a sex symbol in America. Inspired by J Rivers's song "Secret Agent Man," Ang Tunay na Lalaki becomes a spy, rescuing Hello Kitty, when Barney fails, sniffing out the criminals of America's racist pop culture and Iiterary canon. iSecret Asian Man/i has the twists of a mystery thriller#151;murder, revenge, and mind-boggling clues. brPbAbout the Author:/bBrBorn in the Philippines and raised in Manila, Nick Carbo published his first play, i.El Grupo McDonald's/i, with Tia Chucha Press in 1995.
