| How many wrongs does it take to make a right? Veteran newspaper columnist Nikki Harrison writes about the injustices and corruption she sees in her city every day. Now there is a man writing her letters professing his love and admiration for her and his intention to bring justice to those Nikki has identified. He calls himself Paladin and proclaims himself the agent of vengence. Some people just need killing, he says. As Nikki and the police race to discover and stop Paladin, Nikki begins to suspect that Paladin may not be what he claims to be, that he may be part of a wider and more sinister evil; an evil that may involve her, the people she knows best and some of the most powerful people in the city - and possibly the one person she must trust, Gideon Small, the man hired to keep her alive.
