| The town of Painters Mill is a sleepy, rural place. The citizens, both Amish and "Englsih" co-exist side by side with little trouble. Only once has the peace been disturbed - a series of brutal, unsloved murders which shattered the lives of an entire community over a decade ago. When the killing stopped, it left in its aftermath a sense of fragility, and for the young Amish girl, Kate Burkholder, a realisation that she didn't belong.
